This 18-hour course includes lecture and practical open water, CPR, and first aid training.  Topics covered include: ocean safety, group management, oceanography, rip currents, rescue techniques, emergency action plans, and more. This fun yet challenging course will provide surfing instructors with the tools to recognize hazards, minimize risks for their students, safely manage student groups in the surf and to act decisively in an emergency situation.

Note: This training includes Certificates in First Aid and CPR from the American Heart Association. 

Water Safety Specialists Surfing Instructor Safety Training is an awareness level course designed to prepare the surfing instructor for the challenges of safely managing a group of students in the ocean environment.  Combined with First Aid and CPR training this course meets the criteria to operate as a surfing instructor in the city of San Diego.
